A portable shower might be a nice gift to keep your Burner friend happy while camping at Burning Man and elsewhere; they will smell better to your benefit too. Lots of Burners gift homemade jewelry – beaded, woven, welded and carved -- at Burning Man, so stuff your own creation under the tree and you’ll likely get a thumb’s up. With respect, I think you are browsing sites with your developer’s hat on, not as a user. The vast majority of users haven’t even heard of responsive design – if it’s readable, they’ll read it. That’s your personal preference – fair enough.
I always meet great folks that way. For Burners who like to stay up at night, which is all of them, they need to wear lots of light-up accessories, from flashing fur coats to light-up hats and glasses and rings and necklaces. Look for electroluminescent wire, flashing blinky lights and such.

If you have something that you think would be meaningful to the person in front of you… so much the better. Last year was my first and also thought long and hard about what I would do to gift to the community. I was shy and out of place the first couple days and it wasn’t until my 3rd day that I went out and I had more fun giving people rides than anything I did that week. Met people from all over the world and found it really made an impression on both me and the people I picked up.
Another option is just purchasing a Hydration Bladder, and you can put that into a backpack you already own! I did that for Midburn in Israel, and it actually worked out really well. One of the most useful and popular gifts I was given, and then re-gifted was a bic lighter taped to a rope like a necklace.

In a throbbing, flashing, rumbling mob of filthy souls and bicycles, I picked up the soon-to-be-gifted bit of blinking trash and wandered off toward the excellent sounds emanating from the Unimog. Not two minutes later, I stumbled across a fellow Burner deeply distressed that her bicycle had lost its tail light, and here she was, deep playa, no lights, the ultimate darkwad. So hey — I handed her the blinky. No sweat, it cost me nothing, and I certainly had no use for it, but in that moment, that person had one ultimate, all-encompassing desire, and I was able to give it to her. She wanted a blinky, and now she had one. The light in darkness, the tube for the bicycle, the sticker for the tearful child, the bacon in the morning, the the jumper cables at Exodus — those are excellent gifts that stimulate the economy.
It’s a little gift, but a sweet one. This one is a little bit more convenient for the minority of Burners who actually live kind of close to the Black Rock Desert. When it’s not Burning Man season, the desert is lit by the dazzling sprinkling of stars across the sky, especially beautiful when the Perseid Meteor Shower takes place late summer each year. Feet are susceptible to playa foot, a condition where the alkali dust dries out and cracks skin in the Black Rock Desert so a good, solid pair of boots often is recommended for Burning Man.

Impress your favorite Burner by contributing to the creative collective. Some of next year's projects already are beginning to raise funds. Many of the artists from years past either will remain involved or will know where to point you. This will go over the majority of stuff you’ll want to bring to the burn, and help you feel a bit more prepared for the journey you’re about to embark on. Are you an international attendee traveling all the way to the U.S.A to experience at the burn? Why not wear something with your countries flag on it to demonstrate your patriotism!?
The post on Gifting and the replies are thoughtful and beautiful. I will share of myself to these muchachos and this will be my gift to them and also back to me since genuine affection and mutual respect is two-way road of giving and receiving. This too was a wonderful article for me to read and the comments were just as helpful.
I ordered a set of 10 nifty multi-tool cards that I know guys would love, but then I realized the theme for the year was metamorphosis.... And I had written a poem about a butterfly for a friend, which I could adapt and print out as a poem fridge magnet. I also wrote my own poem about burning man which was fun. Here are the two poems I gifted to people as my main gift. I printed probably 50, but I wish I'd printed 100. Last year I got super high and the batteries died in my headlamp and el wire on my backpack.
These gifts are given without discrimination, simply because the recipient exists. Get a hat that will protect your Burner's pretty little head from the sun, but will stay on the wind and fits their style. This is a ubiquitous garment at Burning Man. If you are getting one for your significant other, make sure that they love you and won’t kill you if you get the wrong size. All of their Burner friends will probably be annoyed with them (although, they'll probably secretly steal it and use it a few times too when no one is looking). This one is certainly not for everyone, but if you knew how much Burners talked dirty, you’d concur that this might be a good gift for certain kinky folks out there.
We delight in the charm of a 2-inch man made from one piece of copper wire and puzzle over the meaning of a playing card chosen and handed to you by a citizen in passing. It’s got nothing to do with laziness – it’s about return on investment. Many people seem to consider responsive design a must-have without actually considering whether or not the extra time and cost involved is worth it. I used to live in Australia, so it was great to see a few people out there rocking the popular Budgy Smuggler brand out on the playa, lol. Chapstick, alcohol, portable speaker, sunglasses, gifts, etc. The list can go on and on, but I definitely find myself enjoying having a larger backpack when I venture out for long stretches.
Some are artifacts from events, theme camps and art installations. Others are mementos given to volunteers in the various departments. Thanks for putting this list of Burning Man accessories! We’re going to burning man 2020, and this clothing / burning man packing list gave us some great ideas for what to bring.
